ACS will open their lab in the middle of the night if we need it. They are truly interested in our products, and share our passion for success.
50% reduction in testing costs due to collaborative relationship that eliminates inefficiencies.
Weeks shaved off overall time to market.
Headquartered in Atlanta, GA, ARRIS is an international communications technology company that specializes in cable television and telecommunications. The organization once relied on multiple firms for their extensive compliance certifications, and even tried working with UL directly. But none of those relationships produced the desired results.
“Testing directly through UL put us on their schedule. Delays were hurting our time to market,” said Ed Champion, Senior Engineer Regulatory/Compliance for ARRIS. “We then tried to funnel UL testing through one of our contract manufacturers and used another vendor for EMC certifications. These relationships worked at first, but then we were disappointed as lead times increased and we started seeing mistakes.”
Strangled by both time and cost issues, ARRIS tried using ACS for just one product. The relationship quickly became so successful that now all ARRIS UL and EMC certifications are handled through ACS. “It really is a great working relationship,” beams Champion. “The team at ACS is responsive to my needs. They go out of their way to solve problems and create a great working environment.”
“When we need a testing slot on short notice, they work to make it happen,” said Champion. “They even open their lab at 5 a.m. if we need them to. The simple fact is that the team at ACS answers the phones and they’re there when I need them. More importantly, they are some of the best compliance engineers I’ve ever worked with. When I looked at the technical expertise of ACS combined with their superb service, I found that ARRIS was getting its certifications 50% quicker when validated against our old process.”
Tony Andruzzi, Director of Engineering for ARRIS, points out another benefit to the collaborative relationship that ACS offers—flexibility. “We can send our engineers to work directly with ACS whenever there is a problem,” relates Andruzzi. “ACS even gets involved in product pre-design to help us avoid issues altogether. By reducing retesting and helping to
alleviate problems before they become critical, our testing costs are drastically reduced.
Combine this with the competitive rate structure of ACS, and we found that our overall testing costs dropped by 50% when compared to the previous vendor.”
The result? Weeks are eliminated from ARRIS’s overall time to market, and products are able to better compete and achieve profitability targets.
And Tony Andruzzi sees the relationship between ARRIS and ACS only getting better. “With ACS resources worldwide, we know this test lab will be there for us as we expand our global reach,” related Andruzzi. “It’s a relationship I see continuing well into the future.”
